Leonard Agee Shelton Memorial The next time you are at Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden in Claremont, look for the new sign titled "Some Common Birds of Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden." The sign was presented to the Garden in memory of Agee Shelton, "a longtime friend and benefactor to birding in this region." Mr. Shelton was one of the founders of the Pomona Valley Chapter of the Audubon Society. As an attorney, he donated many hours of pro bono work to National Audubon, assisting National in acquiring land. The sign, to be located on the west pathway on the mesa of the garden, is expected to be in place in time for the Beginners Bird Walk on January 4. The pictures of the birds on the sign were reproduced from original water color paintings by PVAS member Mary Anna Barker. Twelve bird species commonly found at the Garden, are depicted in beautiful full color. PVAS monthly bird walks are mentioned in the text. Sponsors of the sign were family and friends, Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden, Pomona Valley Audubon Society and the Hafif Family Foundation. A dedication ceremony, at which Mrs. Shelton will be present, will be held sometime in the near future. Check your local newspapers, especially the Claremont Currier and the Daily Bulletin for the date and time.
