Biology 176: Tropical Ecology

2009 Field Trip

If there is sufficient student interest, a Costa Rica field trip will run over Spring Break, departing the evening  Friday March 13th and returning late on Sunday March 2nd. This is a strictly OPTIONAL part of the Bio 176 course; it does not carry course credit.
Projected cost is $1200, including airfare.

Most of the time will be spent at the Firestone Reserve, our field station in the lowland tropical rainforest ecosystem of southwestern Costa Rica. there are no formal assignments associated with this field trip, but students will have the opportunity to learn field mapping techniques, butterfly diversity studies, camera -trapping and bat netting, etc.

Tropical heat, insects and student-cooking are part of the experience!

Places on the field trip are limited by vehicle capacity and other considerations. If you are interested in participating, please sign up with Professor McFarlane (Keck Science) as soon as possible.
