Amblyrhiza |
|

|
The remains of the single species A. inundata have been found
on the islands of Anguilla and St. Martin. A much larger relative
of Quemisia and Elasmodontomys, Amblyrhiza reached
the size of an American black bear, but shows remarkable body-size
variability with individuals ranging from a low of ~50 kg to a high of
~200 kg. Amblyrhiza is considered to be a
last-interglacial casualty of high sea-level stands impinging on the
Anguilla Bank. |
