Rodentia; Heptaxodontidae
The largest of the Jamaican endemic mammals, Clidomys is a
poorly-known genus with two nominal species. Only two dated localities are known, and both
have provided dates that preceed or overlap the Sangamonian Interglacial at ~125,000
yrbp.
There is no current evidence that Clidomys survived into the terminal Pleistocene
or Holocene. Clidomys is a heptaxodontid rodent, closely related to Elasmodontomys
of Puerto Rico and Quemisia of Hispaniola.
