family: Megalonychidae

     The West Indian ground sloths comprise one family, twelve nominal genera, and sixteen nominal species, all extinct.  West Indian sloths are known only from the Greater Antilles (excluding Jamaica) and a single locaility, purported Pliocene or early Pleistocene in age, on Grenada. Sloths are also known from the Caribbean islands of the Venezuelan continental shelf.
